There is only one type of printed advertising that approaches the subtle tones and shades of a painting – that is the artwork of the cigar box label. Beginning in 1870, and lasting for over 50 years, skilled artists refined the art of stone lithography with the sole purpose of attracting a customer. Using stones as their canvas, artists fully expressed their imagination to meet the desire of the cigar maker.
